Art Director Job Skills and Experience

Art Director is a problem solver and conceptual thinker. He/she will collaborate with designers, copywriters and cross-functional partners to translate business objectives into visual concepts/campaigns that can work across all channels. As a key player in the creative team, he/she will be pivotal in developing strategies and creative storytelling, in addition to providing quality assurance of all creative deliverables and mentoring designers.

Art Director Job Skills and Experience

This individual has the unique ability to both plan and manages projects while executing against a piece of the project to contribute towards completion. This individual is creative, energetic and detail-oriented to pursue excellence.

An Art Director must possess a wide range of abilities, which will include:

•      At least 12 years of related experience

•      High proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and MS Office and knowledge of HTML5 and CSS

•      Bachelor’s degree or higher in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or related field

•      A proven track record in the planning and execution of a wide variety of design projects

•      The ability to understand the communication needs of clients, consumers, and target audiences

•      The ability to inspire confidence during client interactions

•      Industry-wide Top 5% emotional and social intelligence

•      Industry-wide Top 5% strategic communications thinker

•      The drive to help others succeed and bring unity to many moving parts

•      The insight to identify problems and take measures to rectify them

•      The resilience to work across a number of projects and balance a work load

•      An enthusiasm for graphic creation and applied marketing

  • Strong concept & brainstorming skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with various teams
  • A deep understanding of big social/news media platforms and their abilities/limitations
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
  • Experience crafting design that brings humanity into technology in a way that is understood by audiences
  • A passion and interest in product storytelling and project strategy
  • Ability to press check and a solid understanding of photography, illustration, typography, editing, transfer, and filming
  • An allergy to ads, defaulting to creating exemplary, intuitive, and useful visual design solutions
  • Strong communications skills – written, oral, and visual – a sense of humor
