Accounting and Finance Controller Job Description
Finance Controller leads to change and helps shape business and financial strategy for the company. Responsible for organization support, Global Services Management, Customer Success Management & Data & Analytics teams on all finance-related matters.
The Controller is responsible for managing the financial reconciliation and will manage budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis and reporting functions.
Accounting and Finance Controller is responsible for the operational management and successful execution of the fiscal functions of the company in the areas of Accounting and Treasury. This role will provide overall department leadership in the selection, retention and development of team members.
Accounting and Finance Controller will support decision making through accurate, timely and useful Accounting/Finance reporting and analysis. S/he will be charged with identifying and implementing improvements to processes, procedures, systems and internal controls to position the company for profitable and sustained future growth.
The controller will be performing a top to bottom review of the income statement, balance sheets, cash flow to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial statements. Also, this role will play a pivotal role in mining important data trends.
Generally, a Controller is responsible for accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant administration, and reporting activities.
Controller Job Areas of Duty
Financial Reporting: (single entity and consolidated basis) – Prepare and manage the month-end close process including reconciling all accounts, preparation of financial statements, analyzing the financial statements and variances, and ensuring the financial reporting is accurate and delivered on time.
Strong command of GAAP reporting with the ability to manage a general ledger and take ownership over all journal entries.
Treasury Management: Manage the cash flow forecasting, management, working capital management.
Banking: Prepare quarterly bank covenant calculations and manage the banking relationship. Fully understand the financial needs of the business, implement best practices with an emphasis on continuous improvement. Streamline processes and create efficiencies within the accounting department.
Internal Controls: Examine and analyze segregation of duties and internal controls. Improve processes and controls wherever needed.
Budgeting: Coordinate annual budget process and lead analysis of budget to actual on monthly basis, reforecasting for future months.
Support Services: Support, mentor, champion and lead the staff members.
Audit/Tax: Interface with external CPA firm and lead annual audit and tax compliance activities.

Responsibilities of an Account and Financial Controller
- Analyze, interpret and forecast key financial metrics Recurring Revenue, ATR, Renewal Rates, Attrition, Bookings and OPEX
- Report key metrics, including renewal rates, attrition, ATR, as well as more traditional bookings measures.
- Develop analytics that will tell CX leadership what’s working, and what’s not.
- Set, forecast and monitor Opex/COGS investments and targets to drive productivity and return on investment.
- Drive annual plan process – work with CX & CX Finance leadership, SSF FP&A to drive the annual planning cycle.
- OpEx/COGS management and forecasting.

- Direct the preparation of monthly financial reports; coordinate with the VP of Finance, Operations, and Auxiliaries Enterprises.
- Manage the current cash investments and overall cash position to ensure effective use and maximum return.
- Ensure that systems and procedures result in the disbursement of funds following the approved budget and contract management terms.
- Develop and maintain written policies for department systems and procedures that ensure adequate internal accounting control and efficiency.
- Coordinate and provide support for the annual and special audits.
- Consult with administrators, faculty, and student organizations regarding accounting and fiscal matters.
- Supervise and develop staff that is well qualified, trained, and motivated to perform duties professionally and efficiently.
- Plan for team members growth and continuing education.
- Function as a liaison with banks, investment managers, and other financial institutions.
- Insure office technology is maintained at a level consistent with operational needs.
- Ensure contracts with third party vendors (e.g. banks, collection agencies, loan processor, credit card vendors, payroll processor) are maintained at favorable market rates.
