Work with other advisors to advise Jonsson School students on degree program requirements, University policies and campus resources. Assist with degree audits and student file updates and analyze student records in preparation for appointments or walk-ins. Timely respond to student emails and be the first point of contact for daily student basic questions while routing more complex inquiries to the appropriate area.

Minimum Education And Experience

– Bachelor’s and Two (2) years experience in academic advising, counseling, higher education, social work, human services with students, young adults or adolescents or related experience.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and Four (4) years experience in academic advising, counseling, higher education, social work, human services with students, young adults or adolescents or related experience.
  • Or a Master’s degree.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate ability to work as a team member.
  • Cooperates and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and collaborates with staff in various campus office as well as a diverse student population in providing for academic advising needs of individuals or groups of students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures, academic requirements, and campus resources.
  • Advise students about the development of educational plan options, university policies and resources available.
  • Advisor will assist with degree audits and student file updates.
  • Analyze student records in preparation for appointments or walk-ins; respond to student emails in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for understanding and interpreting the requirements and academic options in a specific area and in other campus departments to facilitate the student’s pursuit of fields of interest.
  • Ability to identify student’s needs in order to make appropriate referrals; maintain confidentiality of student records.
  • Advisor will be available as the first point of contact for daily questions, answering basic inquiries and routing more complex inquiries to the appropriate area.
  • Attend training sessions or professional development workshops and disseminate information to staff as well as participating in student success initiatives.
  • Possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills as well as organizational skills.
  • Ability to use multiple computer systems including PeopleSoft, OnBase, StudentBook as well as Microsoft Office.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Required to work late one day each week.

Additional Information

Remote Work Notice:

Hybrid remote work environment available and a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement is required upon employment. Use of personal computer and other standard office equipment may be required. Must be located within the State of Texas (or Must be located within the DFW Area) and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice.

Mandatory Testing & Daily Health Check

In order to combat the spread of COVID-19 all UTD Faculty, Staff and Students are required to:
