The Opportunity

It assists the Director of Advising and the Associate Dean in the College of Engineering and Computer Science Academic Affairs Office.

  • Provides academic advising including university, college, and major advising for the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) students.
  • Advising includes but is not limited to major declaration, orientation, enrollment, retention, progression, and graduation.


  • Provide academic advising to support CECS student retention and graduation initiatives. Identify and help resolve obstacles impeding the academic success of CECS students. Educate students about the value of academic advisement.
  • Support students in developing a required academic plan to meet graduation requirements. Explain academic policies, procedures, and guidelines and help CECS students navigate the college and university-level administrative processes. Educate students on the importance of the registration process.
  • Provide advising and registration assistance to assigned students during Orientations. Analyze CECS students’ academic and personal issues/concerns and provide referral/intervention services.
  • Teach students how to navigate the myUCF student portal and find critical information (e.g., historical records, current grades, holds, academic standing, assigned advisor) and use various tools such as myKnight audit, Pegasus Path, and Schedule Builder.
  • Maintain student records and document student interactions in myKnight Star and other systems as appropriate. Use advising tools, campaigns, and technology fully to manage student data and records.
  • Integrate career development concepts and strategies into the developmental advising process and assists students with developing awareness and identifying strengths and weaknesses in the process.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degreePreferred Qualifications

  • Organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to solve problems and utilize good judgment and decision-making skills.
