Associate Accounting Specialist Job Description
The Associate Accounting Specialist will be trained on department policies, procedures and general accounting functions. This position will assist accounting specialists with day-to-day tasks and projects. An Associate Accounting Specialist will progressively increase his/her responsibilities and eventually work independently on various department projects and procedures to become an Accounting Specialist
Associate Accounting Specialist Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with general accounting functions: support account managers with client balances, prepare journal entries, and maintain balance sheet schedules and ledgers.
- Work under direction of an accounting specialist to:
- Process North Risk Partners insurance company direct bill commission statements and reconcile and process carrier agency bill statements
- Collect customer accounts receivable, assist with year-end closings process, process employee expense reports, and process cash receipts
- Pay vendor bills based upon approved authorization matrix
- Provide information and support during the audit process, and practice internal financial controls and procedures.
- Receive, approve, code, and, when necessary, investigate client accounts payable invoices for staff to input.
- Prepare daily journal entries, including daily sweeps from company sweeps.
- Assist with preparing analysis of accounts as requested.
- Assist with preparing appropriate schedules and reports as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned by accounting department team members or partners.

Requirements:
Associate Accounting Specialist Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Degree in accounting or equivalent experience preferred.
- General knowledge of accounting principles.
- General knowledge of local, state and federal laws regarding accounting, finances and taxation.
- Technical accounting skills.
- Positive can-do attitude.
- Ability to deal sensitively with confidential information.
- A self-starter who regularly demonstrates initiative.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
- A working knowledge of standard technology, including core Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- A team player who collaborates between departments and works well with his/her coworkers.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
