Job Summary
Applies fundamental engineering concepts, practices, and procedures to analyze operational data/methods, identify performance improvement opportunities, and/or implement technology systems that meet business objectives. Detailed summary in the areas of: AUTOMATION & SYSTEMS: Designs and supports specific material handling sortation systems, design specifications, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system integration for manual sort facilities. Analyzes vendor supplied equipment and supports project installation and testing. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING ENGINEERING: Designs and supports the development of sites, buildings, offices, material handling systems, and sortation equipment for manual sort facilities. Supports vendors on preventative maintenance efforts for material handling and manual and automated sortation equipment. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Plans, directs, controls, and implements engineering, construction, and start-up of FedEx Ground sortation facilities and material handling systems. INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER & PROCESS: Provides analysis, reporting tools, and engineering support for FedEx Ground field operations to effectively control and/or justify operational costs. OPERATIONS RESEARCH, PLANNING & ANALYSIS: Analyzes data to support the tactical and strategic development of long-term network design and capacity planning for current and future FXG facilities. OPERATIONS TECHNOLOGY: Researches, designs, develops, deploys, and/or supports new and current technology solutions to improve performance and reduce operating costs with management guidance and support. Leads and participates on small cross-functional project teams responsible for implementing new technology. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING PROCUREMENT ENGINEERING: Provides analysis, and engineering support on key material handling system commodities that requires specific technical knowledge to procure for FedEx Ground sortation facilities and material handling systems. OPERATIONS TECHNOLOGY SECURITY ENGINEERING: Oversee security of all OT devices on the FedEx Ground Network. Interfaces with IT, InfoSec, and Network Services on all OT Security initiatives.
Essential Functions
• Analyzes performance data within engineering. Utilizes engineering tools and software to analyze data and validate results. Formulates issues in a logical manner and arrives at a comprehensive result. • Researches, analyzes, and effectively consolidates technical or engineering related information and presents for management review. • Prepares, with management guidance, accurate expenditure proposals and/or cost justification analysis. Monitors expenditures to ensure spending is applied and within budget guidelines. • Formulates and presents document research, progress, and results to team members, internal customers, and senior management. • Applies project management fundamentals and concepts with management guidance. Publishes progress reports, meeting minutes, and field communication memos. • Participates in Control Self Monitoring (CSM) and/or Business Control Self-Assessment (BCSA) process within area of responsibility.
Minimum Education
MINIMUM EDUCATION • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical or quantitative degree (e.g. mathematics) required; in addition to Minimum Experience, high school diploma or GED and four (4) years experience in applicable technical area is accepted in lieu of degree. Preferred disciplines may be needed in the areas of: AUTOMATION & SYSTEMS: • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING ENGINEERING: • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or related field preferred. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING PROJECT MANAGEMENT: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER & PROCESS: • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, or related field preferred. OPERATIONS RESEARCH, PLANNING & ANALYSIS: • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field preferred. OPERATIONS TECHNOLOGY: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING PROCUREMENT ENGINEERING: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. OPERATIONS TECHNOLOGY SECURITY ENGINEERING: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or IT Security related field preferred.
Minimum Experience
• Two (2) years experience required in technical area. Preferred experience may be needed in the areas of: AUTOMATION & SYSTEMS: • None required. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING ENGINEERING: • None required. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING PROJECT MANAGEMENT: • Experience with managing technical or construction projects preferred. INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER & PROCESS: • Experience in Industrial Engineering preferred. OPERATIONS RESEARCH, PLANNING & ANALYSIS: • Experience with simulation software (e.g., Arena, AutoMod, Simio), programming language (e.g., Visual Basic, C+, Java), statistical software (e.g. SAS), data mining, mapping software (e.g. GIS), and optimization model preferred. • Experience with statistical analysis, network analysis, and/or financial analysis preferred. OPERATIONS TECHNOLOGY: • Experience with managing technical projects and engineering preferred. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING PROCUREMENT ENGINEER: • Experience with managing technical or construction projects preferred. OPERATIONS TECHNOLOGY SECURITY ENGINEERING: • Experience with interconnected systems in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Required Skills, Abilities and / or Licensure
• Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications. • Verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of management. • Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals. • Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs. • Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions. More specific skills may be needed in the areas of: AUTOMATION & SYSTEMS: • Working knowledge of PLC based automated systems, electrical and electronic test/troubleshooting systems, and motor control methods preferred. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING ENGINEERING: • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software preferred. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING PROJECT MANAGEMENT: • Knowledge of project management concepts and project lifecycle. • Knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling. • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings. • Knowledge of concepts related to construction and/or machine design. INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER & PROCESS: • Working knowledge of statistical programming language (e.g., SAS). • Knowledge of project management concepts and project lifecycle. OPERATIONS RESEARCH, PLANNING & ANALYSIS: • None required. OPERATIONS TECHNOLOGY: • None required. FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING PROCUREMENT ENGINEER: • Knowledge of project management concepts and project lifecycle. • Knowledge of a procurement lifecycle. • Knowledge of supply chain management. • Knowledge of concepts related to construction and/or machine design. OPERATIONS TECHNOLOGY SECURITY ENGINEERING: • Knowledge of interconnected systems in a manufacturing environment. • Knowledge of FedEx Ground OT devices and security vulnerabilities. • Knowledge of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and security vulnerabilities. • Knowledge of InfoSec requirements.
