Responsibilities*

Chairside assisting using four-handed dentistry in the Dental Faculty Associates Clinic. Seat, prepare, and position patients for treatment to facilitate four-handed dentistry, set-up prior to treatment and anticipate dentist’s needs for each procedure during treatment, mix and manipulate dental materials, use high velocity oral evacuation methods. Take impressions, pour, and trim dental casts, fabricate custom impression trays. Take digital radiographs, including panorex and computed tomography according to standard procedures or specific instructions. Use an electronic health record for clinical activities. Perform routine maintenance on equipment, instruments, etc. and report repair and maintenance needs. Order, stock and organize operatory supplies. Coordinate laboratory cases for faculty. Help throughout the Dental Faculty Associates practice as the schedule allows. Assist with patient management, render medical assistance in emergencies. Overtime as required for completion of patient care with little or no notice. Follow current infection control standards pertaining to OSHA guidelines and patient confidentiality requirements in the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA). Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

Four plus years current experience in a progressive General Dentistry. Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assistant National Board (DANB) or Registration as a Dental Assistant (RDA) with a current Michigan license. Certification on Intra-Oral Radiography. C.P.R. certification. Possess current knowledge of infection control standards pertaining to OSHA and Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA). Must have knowledge and experience working with a dental clinic information system and digital radiography. Extensive knowledge of dental clinic practices, dental materials and procedures. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, faculty and staff at all times. Excellent ability to multi-task. Excellent attendance and punctuality.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with computerized dentistry and CAD/CAM systems. Knowledge of Word and Excel computer applications. Associates Degree in Dental Assisting. Experience with Electronic Health Record. Experience ordering dental materials and supplies. Knowledge of School of Dentistry and University policies, practices and regulations.

Work Schedule

Shift/Hours/Days: M-F 8am-5pm with some flexibility required

Work Locations

This position is for the School of Dentistry located at 1011 N University.
