As we rapidly become the world’s largest consumer of products, goods and services in many categories, the Global Corporate Procurement team is seeking a Global Strategic Sourcing Manager to join our team.

Global Strategic Sourcing Managers (GSSM) develop and execute sourcing strategies, that deliver savings/value and improve productivity. GSSMs routinely interact with C-level supplier executives and advise senior Amazon leaders on innovative sourcing strategies and solutions that create sustainable, long-term return on investment. GSSMs are highly effective communicators, who are comfortable selling the value of strategic sourcing to internal clients across lines of business.

We are seeking a highly skilled Global Strategic Sourcing Managers with extensive experience leading complex sourcing initiatives within the IT Products and Services category such as IT, Software, Telecom, Professional services); however, we often source items beyond the aforementioned. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a team that is having a daily impact on Amazon’s success.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Dive deep across multiple business lines to leverage our supplier base with the goal of optimizing performance, quality, and cost.
  • Earn trust and establish strong relationships with internal business stakeholders; build a robust understanding of strategic business direction, requirements and priorities across assigned suppliers and/or spend categories.
  • Lead complex, cross-functional projects often of global reach.
  • Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models and benchmarking; leveraging key-insights to inform and support the strategic sourcing strategy development process.
  • Drive results by leveraging RFx, spend pattern analysis, contract analysis, bid evaluation, negotiations, and supplier consolidation.
  • Work with business and finance leaders to identify and drive savings and controllership improvements, focusing on total cost of ownership.
  • Encourage the participation, evaluation, and selection of diverse suppliers who meet requirements to create opportunities for a broad range of businesses and commodities.
  • Engage the appropriate subject matter experts, including Finance, Legal, Tax, Risk, and Information Security, to evaluate and develop strategies to mitigate third party risk.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant strategic sourcing experience, to include at minimum, 5 years in a direct or indirect sourcing role
  • 7+ years of experience practicing best-in-class procurement processes (strategic sourcing management, benchmarking, should-cost models, RFx, direct negotiations, auctions, contracting, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience in developing category plans and sourcing one or more of the following commodities: IT Software, Telecom, Professional Services or similar large commodity categories.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BBA/BS) or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled negotiator with proven experience in setting negotiation strategies and leading negotiations
  • Expert understanding of, and wide-ranging experience with, multi-step strategic sourcing processes and category management strategies
  • Strong project management skills, including adhering to stakeholder timelines, requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial agreement structures and the function and purpose of key legal terms
  • Extremely Customer Obsessed, taking the time to understand the needs of the business
  • Experience working with multiple teams every day who may report to different leaders in a large global organization, and works easily in multi-business unit project settings
  • Strong analytical and financial skills including the ability to quickly synthesize, distill, and draw conclusions from large amounts of disparate data.
  • Passionate self-starter with the highest integrity and ethics
  • Proven written and verbal communicator, with interpersonal skills to act as an effective and efficient change agent, unlocking barriers to value for priority spend categories
  • Embraces fact‐based decision making; naturally seeks to leverage and/or integrate market data, spend analytics, and cost modeling
  • Master’s Degree (MBA/MS) or equivalent preferred
