Job summary
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of the development, verification and validation of the full software stack, including complex embedded real time systems, network software systems, software engineering practices, development as well as automated test tools.

You will lead a talented team to tackle challenging, novel situations every day. You will have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations, partner teams, and end customers. Key job responsibilities
As a SDM (Software Development Manager) on the Kuiper Solutions Engineering Team (KSET), your responsibilities will include some or all of the following:

  • Set the vision for KSET SW development team for architecting and executing on custom satellite and ground-based systems
  • Own the team’s roadmap and ensure the strategic vision is executed. You will be responsible for gathering customer requirements, project prioritization, software quality, and system delivery
  • Lead and work with a talented team to deliver software and systems for custom satellite bus, payload, and ground-based system functionality, in addition to networking solutions
  • Recruit and retain top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks
  • Create and manage project roadmaps and timelines, while proactively managing risks
  • Participate in executive-level communication and forge strong partnerships across teams and with customers (including government and enterprise customers)

The role is located in Northridge, CA, and includes US relocation benefits.

Security Clearance: Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance of TS/SCI, so you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration.

About the team
The Kuiper Solutions Engineering team is a multi-disciplinary technology team involved in developing and delivering targeted and scalable solutions for custom satellite and ground applications, including for United States and allied government customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
  • Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
  • 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience in building, leading, managing and developing high-performance software engineering teams
  • 5+ years of experience as a software developer in at least one modern language such as Java, C++, Rust, Go or Python, or another object-oriented programming language
  • 5+ years of experience with the development, validation, and verification of complex embedded systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD degree in in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with software and hardware development or validation across full product life cycles – concept to production
  • Experience with AWS services and cloud native software development.
  • Experience with Agile/SCRUM software development.
  • Experience with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) systems
  • 5+ years of experience development software solutions for government customers
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) DevOps
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps and Cyber-Security SW practices
  • Satellite integration and test experience.
