Amazon Digital Music is looking for an experienced Principal, Content Acquisition to join our Record Label Licensing Team. The executive will lead global licensing negotiations and strategy, including leading negotiations with major record labels, driving/building complex models to forecast business metrics, evaluating the impacts of negotiated royalty structures and proactively performing analytic deep dives across a variety of key performance indicators. The executive will maintain and drive Amazon’s relationships with key record labels and will be responsible for developing content strategy, securing new content and additional rights, and performing competitive monitoring.

Key job responsibilities
• Determine record label licensing strategy in relation to new projects and initiatives
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key record labels at decision-making level
• Negotiate license agreements to secure all necessary rights from record labels, and expand existing agreements as needed
• Perform analysis to quantify the impact of royalty models, and other terms that are negotiated terms with record labels globally
• Collaborating with the legal team to review contractual terms and conditions relating to licensing agreements
• Partner with internal Finance/Content Analytics teams to evaluate our deal terms across service tiers and territories
• Audit business metrics, perform deep dive analysis on problems to understand root causes and making decisions based on data
• Monitor the competitive landscape to help inform Amazon Music’s strategic priorities and expansion opportunities

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in account management, business development, content licensing, or finance
  • 8+ years of experience negotiating license and/or business development agreements
  • Bachelor’s Degree

• 6+ years’ successful track record of negotiating complex record label licensing agreements
• 6+ years’ experience developing BD or acquisition strategies
• 6+ years’ experience using hard data and metrics to drive opportunities and back up assumptions
• Relevant experience within the music and/or digital service provider industries
• Ability to develop ideas independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Effective verbal/written communication skills and attention to detail
• Experience with SQL, Tableau and Excel 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bias for action; ability to juggle multiple priorities and create a sense of urgency in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Sound business judgment and demonstrated ability to think and act both strategically and tactically
• Self-starter who is customer obsessed, detail-oriented, and an enthusiastic team player
• Nimbleness and comfort with ambiguity; ability to respond rapidly to evolving threats and opportunities
• Experience in writing detailed, and data-supported documents
• Understanding of digital music services and business models
• MBA

The base pay for this position ranges from $132,600 per year in our lowest geographic market up to $246,700 per year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
