Job summary
Are you passionate about building products from the ground up and driving a big impact? Are you excited for opportunities to solve complex challenges and deliver solutions for end customers? The Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) team is looking for a Principal Product Manager to define direction on a new product initiative. In this role, you will own both strategy and delivery, working across a wide range of cross-functional teams and stakeholders including engineering, user experience, finance, business intelligence and more. The solutions you create will influence not just experiences within Kindle Direct Publishing, but also across Book’s teams more broadly and have a tangible impact on both content creators and customers. As part of KDP, you will join and contribute to a thriving business that has revolutionized reading and the way authors of any level engage the millions of readers that shop on Amazon.

The successful candidate is able to define and deliver on a vision working backwards from customer needs, ruthlessly prioritize, identify opportunities to simplify and scale solutions and operate at a strategic level while staying connected to the details. She or he must have proven experience defining direction and driving decisions across a variety of stakeholders and Sr. Leadership.

Key job responsibilities
• Owning the vision for your product space, including managing communication and driving decisions across stakeholders and Sr. leadership.
• Working backwards from anecdotes, data and research to define direction, and set priority.
• Delivering high-impact products while identifying the key risks, tradeoffs and prioritization calls that balance delivery against costs.
• Navigating ambiguity and identifying simple solutions for hard problems.
• Prioritizing features working in close partnership with engineering teams, UX designers and other stakeholders.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years of product management experience including partnering closely with engineering and UX teams.
• Strong judgement and proven ability to balance competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
• Experience building a compelling vision and roadmap and working across diverse stakeholder to deliver.
• Track record of delivering products from concept to execution that meaningfully improve customer experiences with strong business results over a long period of time.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• MBA Degree
• Ability to develop new ideas and creative solutions.
• Ability to analyze quantitatively, problem-solve and develop clear data-driven recommendations.
• Proven ability to influence.
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle.
• Experience with SQL, Excel, Access and statistical tools
• Ability to think strategically and execute methodically
• Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever is necessary; general manager / owner mentality
• Passion for reading
