Job summary

To realize our vision of making Alexa a fun, supportive, and educational companion for customers, engineers on our team must innovate to build unique Alexa experiences from ground-up and solve a range of technical challenges across the Alexa architecture. We will leverage speech recognition, natural language processing, interactive voice dialogs, distributed systems, knowledge graph, and much more, to build solutions that scale to millions of devices and customers across the globe.
Key job responsibilities
As a senior member of our engineering team, your expertise will shape our technology strategy. You will contribute to team architecture and product solutions, and solve complex technical challenges across a wide range of disciplines to deliver our Kids Experience roadmap.
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Design, develop and test complex software for large projects and critical path solutions.
- Produce clear and logical designs that reflect best practices in software architecture
- Conduct technical assessments and investigations and advise product leadership on the best path forward
- Actively mentor other team members and drive projects to streamline processes and improve code quality
- Translate functional requirements and collaborate with other team members and partner teams in Alexa to effectively coordinate solutions and understand design tradeoffs
- Build highly scalable and operationally excellent solutions across our entire software stack
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
- 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- Programming experience with at least one software programming language.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- Experience in exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs
- Experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability
- Experience with open-source technologies (Linux, Spring, JQuery, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience building Alexa Skills and/or Amazon Web Services
- Experience with one or more of: speech technology, natural language processing, machine learning, user experience design, mobile or web application development.
