Summary

About the Position: Serves as a senior Supervisory Police Officer (Service & Support Branch Chief) in the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) Police Department within the Directorate of Operations with the overall responsibility for the command and control for all law enforcement operations in a geographic area of responsibility on a major military installation.

Duties

  • Responsible for the operational status of all police officers and civilian employees assigned to the branch.
  • Involves in law enforcement, Police Desk, Police Records, Supply and Logistics, Information Technology, and Emergency Communications activities.
  • Performs duties as a supervisory federal police officer performing law enforcement duties in an area of exclusive federal jurisdiction.
  • Ensures that assigned personnel properly execute law enforcement duties for the installation.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance, and enforcement of a full range of Federal, State, local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they pertain to law enforcement work, and the supervision of others engaged in such duties.
  • Recommends solutions and coordinates implementation of major changes in procedures, staffing, funding, organization and staffing.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. Employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • This position requires rotating shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Incumbent must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy.
  • A medical screening/examination is required in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56, Appendices B and C.
  • This position requires the incumbent to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
  • Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Leading or supervising employees in the area of law enforcement; 2) Coordinating developmental and training needs of employees; and 3) Enforcing laws, regulations, policies, standards or procedures in law enforcement.
