Pharmacy Technician Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to facilitate all aspects of the Prior Authorization/Coverage Determination process, manages the Pharmacy help desk line, assist Customer Service on drug-related concerns/issues for the AlohaCare QUEST Integrated (QI) and Advantage Plus (ACAP) Plans, and provides administrative support for formulary management and compliance related functions of the AlohaCare Pharmacy Department.

Provides customer service for drop-off and pick-up of prescriptions and maintains an orderly flow at the front counter and point-of-sale (PSE) terminal; complies will all PSE guidelines for the sale of pseudoephedrine; operates pharmacy computer to enter customer and insurance information; maintains medication profiles; under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, enters prescriptions, assembles them by counting, pouring, and labeling medication; alerts customers to drug interactions; assists in inventory control and helps maintain pharmacy in an orderly state; assists with prior authorization processes; provides general office support to Pharmacy Services Manager. This position will requires some evening and Saturday hours

Responsibilities for the Pharmacy Technician Job

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Process all prior authorization (PA)/coverage determination (CD) and Direct Member Reimbursement (DMR) requests into the Prior Authorization (PA) System in an accurately and timely manner.
  • Adhere to turnaround times (TAT) for PAs/CDs and MDR as required the State, NCQA, and the CMS.
  • Assist members, pharmacies, prescribers, and internal staff with pharmacy claims processing, pharmacy benefits, and AlohaCare’s Formularies
  • Review and process daily rejected claim and monitoring of claims processing for potential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) potential
  • Assists the Clinical Pharmacists with Medication Therapy Management (MTM)
  • Process member ‘‘lock-in”
  • Remain in compliance with the department’s policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Responsible to maintain AlohaCare’s confidential information in accordance with AlohaCare policies, and state and federal laws, rules and regulations regarding confidentiality. Employees have access to AlohaCare data based on the data classification assigned to this job title.
  • Perform all warehouse and pharmacy duties including picking, packing, receiving, counting, labeling, and tracking inventory
  • Use all of the warehouse/pharmacy equipment/machinery
  • Achieve assigned performance metrics and KPIs
  • Interact with Veterinarians and Pharmacists
  • Document and report all discrepancies, damages and errors
  • Proofread, generate, and apply drug labels under the supervision of a Pharmacist
  • Help maintain a secure, organized, clean, and safe warehouse/pharmacy
  • Handle all hazardous materials, pesticides, and prescription drugs according to the Company’s processes/procedures and all applicable laws and regulations

Educational Qualifications for Pharmacy Technician

High School diploma or General Equivalency diploma (GED); successful completion of a pharmacy technician training program, registered with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy; PTCB certification; must have worked a minimum of one year in pharmacy dispensing medications; must have current Basic Life Support-Heath Care Worker (BLS-HCW) certification upon hire.
