An applicant for an Engineering Alumni Scholarship, who is a new student at the University of Guelph and is beginning a Ph.D. program will be given preference. The Engineering Alumni Scholarship winner will be chosen based on their prior academic standing, curriculum vitae, and letters of recommendation.

A comprehensive public research university in Guelph, Ontario, Canada is called the University of Guelph. It was founded in 1964 following the union of the Ontario Agricultural College (1874), the MacDonald Institute (1903), and the Ontario Veterinary College (1922). Since then, it has expanded to an organization with almost 30,000 students (including those at the Humber campus, Ridgetown campus, off-campus degree enrolments, diploma enrolments, and part-time students) and 830 full-time faculty (academic staff) as of fall 2019 (including those at the Humber campus and Ridgetown campus). The Ontario government gained 200 hectares (500 acres) of property from Frederick William Stone, and on May 1, 1874, it launched the Ontario School of Agriculture, later known as the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC), which was the forerunner of today’s University of Guelph. Along with the museum of agriculture and horticulture, the Experimental Farm was a component of the initial idea. Where Johnston Hall now stands, Moreton Lodge, the institution’s initial structure, once included classrooms, apartments, a library, and a dining hall.
In a ranking of the top 50 research universities in Canada for 2018, the University of Guelph came in at number 16. The university was ranked fifth nationwide in the social sciences and humanities in 2012 by the Higher Education Strategy Associates. Publishers of the yearly World University Rankings, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), have awarded the University of Guelph a five-star grade.
According to the QS World University Ranking for 2020, the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph was placed No. 5 globally and No. 1 in Canada.
