Oracle is seeking a senior EHS leader to lead the global Environmental, Health & Safety program for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) data centers, one of the fastest-growing data center construction and operations programs in the world. The role owns the program from design and construction through commissioning and into operations, and is the primary program-level EHS partner to OCI’s construction and operations leadership.
This is a global leadership role with program-wide scope. The role sets the data center EHS program that regional EHS organizations deploy, directly leads a dedicated data center project EHS team where Oracle’s build activity is concentrated, and brings EHS into OCI planning and decisions early enough to shape them. The role works directly with OCI Data Center Operations, Data Center Facilities Development, data center construction and delivery teams, regional EHS directors, and senior business leadership.
Reports to the Vice President, Global EHS. The role leads the data center project EHS team and collaborates with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Procurement, Legal, HR, Security, and the Global EHS standards and assurance function.
This role is based in the United States at a major Oracle hub. Expected travel 30 to 50 percent, including international.
Responsibilities
Global data center program and OCI partnership
Lead the global data center EHS program across design, construction, commissioning, and operations, built on Oracle’s globally harmonized EHS management system and applied consistently in every country where Oracle builds.
Serve as the primary program-level EHS partner to OCI construction and operations leadership: advise on EHS risk, controls, and performance; bring EHS into project planning, risk reviews, and readiness decisions; and represent the global EHS function on data center matters.
Lead development of the data center EHS requirements written into construction, commissioning, and services contracts and into lease and development agreements, through Oracle’s EHS standards process, and support enforcement of existing contract terms with general contractors, developers, and delivery partners.
Project delivery and commissioning EHS
Provide Oracle’s owner-side EHS oversight on data center projects where the team is deployed, in partnership with OCI construction leadership, including contractor prequalification, site-specific safety plan review, field oversight, and verification of critical risk controls, while general contractors keep responsibility for their means and methods.
Lead development of the EHS approach for commissioning and energization through Oracle’s EHS standards process, including simultaneous-operations coordination, permit-to-work interfaces, and safe turnover to live operations, when EHS responsibility moves to the operating site’s EHS team.
Lead development of environmental requirements for data center projects, including stormwater, dust, noise, and waste management, through Oracle’s EHS standards process and in coordination with regional environmental compliance programs.
Partner with regional EHS directors on data center projects in their regions, providing the program, requirements, and technical support their teams deploy.
Critical risk and serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention
Drive SIF prevention across data center projects, with field verification of critical controls for the highest-hazard work: electrical safety and energized work, energy isolation, work at height, lifting operations, confined space, excavation, and hot work.
Lead the rollout of Oracle’s life-critical safety rules on data center projects, with the training, communication, and acknowledgement that make them effective.
Incident oversight and learning
Oversee general contractor investigations of serious incidents and high-potential events on data center projects, consistent with Oracle’s global incident management standard, and verify that corrective actions are effective.
Drive learning across projects and regions so that lessons from one site change practice on the next.
Field technology and performance
Lead the deployment of field EHS technology on data center projects, including inspections, observations, corrective actions, and contractor management, consistent with Oracle’s enterprise EHS technology roadmap.
Own data center EHS performance measurement, including leading and lagging indicators, and report clearly to OCI and Global EHS leadership.
Team leadership
Build, lead, and develop the data center project EHS team, including resource planning, performance management, succession, and an operating rhythm matched to OCI’s build schedule.
Exercise and support stop-work authority without hesitation where conditions warrant
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
10+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience, including leadership of EHS for large construction, commissioning, or mission-critical programs.
Significant experience in hyperscale data centers/critical facilities, large-scale construction, or other high-hazard, complex operating environments (e.g., utilities/power generation, oil and gas, chemical, large-scale industrial operations), including strong oversight of general contractors and major delivery partners in a client or owner capacity.
Demonstrated capability leading EHS through rapid capital expansion, including construction safety oversight, commissioning and energization safety, and operational readiness and turnover; direct high-voltage/critical facilities experience is highly desired.
Experience leading EHS programs across multiple sites, countries, or regulatory regimes.
Credibility with senior construction and operations leadership, with a record of earning buy-in without direct authority.
Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems, OSHA construction and general industry requirements and their international equivalents, and electrical safety (NFPA 70E or equivalent).
Proven track record leading or overseeing incident investigation and root cause analysis, including SIF prevention and critical control verification.
Experience leading and developing EHS teams, and implementing EHS technology platforms in the field.
Executive-level communication and influence skills in English; able to drive alignment across functions, cultures, and geographies.
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree and/or relevant certifications preferred (e.g., CSP, CIH, CMIOSH, ISO lead auditor, or equivalent).
