Reddit is a platform built on creativity, and our users are constantly finding new ways to make it their own. Tens of thousands of external developers are already building apps on Reddit, and we’re just getting started.

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help shape the future of our developer platform. You’ll work across frontend, backend, SDKs, platform, and full-stack systems to make it easier for developers to build useful, creative, and delightful apps on Reddit.

You’ll help define the technical direction of the platform, lead important initiatives, and build the foundation for new developer experiences. You’ll work closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and other teams to solve complex problems and turn ambitious ideas into real products. This is a very hands-on role. We collaborate closely with Redditors and reddit.com regularly.

If you enjoy building new things, working across technical boundaries, and making delightful experiences for developers, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Working On

  • Designing and implementing platform features, making the developer platform easier, faster, and more powerful to build on
  • Leading major technical initiatives from early exploration through launch
  • Building the systems and tools that support future developer experiences
  • Working across backend, infrastructure, client, and full-stack components
  • Helping create a collaborative team with a strong sense of ownership

Who You Might Be

  • 6+ years of industry experience working on platform functionality, developer tools, full-stack products, or app platforms
  • Experience leading large-scale technical projects from design through delivery
  • API design and platform engineering experience, with a strong sense of developer empathy
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Go, TypeScript, GraphQL, React, Redis, relational / NoSQL databases, along with the ability to work across the stack when needed
  • A habit of using AI tools in your daily work to improve productivity and software quality
  • A track record of mentoring engineers and raising the bar for software engineering practices through intentional efforts contributing to team culture
  • A passion for building high-quality software that people enjoy using
  • An entrepreneurial mindset: you’re self-directed, curious, comfortable with ambiguity, and eager to turn ideas into action
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment and explain complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences

Responsibilities:

  • Build and evolve the core platform services and capabilities that power the developer experience.
  • Create new capabilities that help external developers build great apps on Reddit
  • Contribute across the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch
  • Review code, design documents, product specifications, and user experiences
  • Help shape team strategy and the future direction of the platform
  • Share knowledge, mentor teammates, and contribute to a culture of thoughtful ownership

Bonus Points

  • Contributions to open-source projects
  • Native mobile development experience
  • Experience building Reddit apps with the Devvit platform

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive Healthcare Benefits and Income Replacement Programs
  • 401k with Employer Match
  • Global Benefit programs that fit your lifestyle, from workspace to professional development to caregiving support
  • Family Planning Support
  • Gender-Affirming Care
  • Mental Health & Coaching Benefits
  • Flexible Vacation & Paid Volunteer Time Off
  • Generous Paid Parental Leave
